Breakout Seminars

Every year at Vessels, a team of seminar speakers presents on a range of topics to share what the Lord has put on their hearts for the next generation of believers. Each seminar is given twice to allow for the maximum number of attendees, while still maintaining a classroom-like dynamic. These are much smaller and more intimate than the General sessions, allowing for more interaction. Be sure to mark your choices in your registration forms! See the PDF below for a schedule matrix to help you build your roster.

Better Caught than Taught

Ann Bjorlie

Ann will share how God led her in making disciples fulfilling the Great Commission when she didn’t even know the command was in the Bible. “Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” “ Matthew 28:16-20 Notice verse 17, where they worshipped but some doubted! Ann will take you on her own journey sharing her trial and error experiences in making disciples. Did she always do it right? Was there failure? Was God overruling? What counts in God’s rule book? Her aim is to help YOU figure out how You fit into God’s plan for making disciples! We are all different but all able to be used in His great plan. Hallelujah!

About the Presenter:

Ann is passionate about encouraging young people to follow the Lord Jesus. She is wife to John, mother of nine, and currently grandma to 27. She was born and raised in North Dakota and experienced the grace of God that brings salvation in 1972 when she attended the evangelistic event Explo ‘72 in Dallas, Texas. Within ten months of her conversion, Ann was inviting young women into her life and faith not realizing she was carrying out the command to make disciples. She continues on this path today and through the years came to see that “truth is often better caught than taught.” John and Ann married in 1978 and have served the Lord together from the first days of their marriage. Both are commended to the work of the Lord and serve from their home in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where the ministry InTents originated in 2010. This is a nine-day discipleship training for women where the attendees learn from and serve with spiritually gifted women who are actively practicing the ministry they teach.

Hard to Forgive

John Bjorlie

Forgiveness is basic to Christianity. The moment God forgave us was our start. God is determined for us to understand and experience forgiveness in a deep way. Therefore He allows us into many situations where we must forgive others. Ephesians 4:31-32 “Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.”

About the Presenter:

Ann and I were raised in Valley City, North Dakota. We were brought to Christ in separate circumstances in June of 1972. We married in 1978 and were commended to the Lord’s service in 1984. We moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1985 where we raised our nine children.

Prayer, Asking and Receiving

Ann Bjorlie

John and I were recently traveling. We attended a local prayer meeting. One of the men prayed for the missionaries and several others. He said, "I pray for the missionaries, I pray for (name), I pray for (name) etc. If you were the one to answer this prayer, what would you do? If you prayed this prayer how would you know God answered? Join me in learning how to pray. The disciples asked Jesus, "And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples." Luke 11:1

Reading the Bible Without Autopilot

Cainon Leeds

The goal of this seminar is to revitalize a sense of curiosity and discovery about God's Word. In this interactive session, we will learn to be honest with ourselves about what we bring to the text, sometimes completely unaware that we're doing so, recognize that God gave us different perspectives alongside objective reality, and examine the Scriptures like the Jews from Berea did in Acts 17. If you've caught yourself reading your Bible on autopilot like you drive your car to work, if you feel like your time with God's Word is more of a chore than an expedition, or if you've been told not to ask questions about the Bible or doctrines that churches have handed down, this session is for you.

The Chaste Tongue

John Bjorlie

The Chaste Tongue: Proverbs 25:11 says “A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold In settings of silver” - certainly a rare thing. In this seminar we discuss victory over the abuse of the tongue and how to always have grace in our speech, seasoned with salt. In Luke 4:22 we read how all bore witness to Christ, “and marveled at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth.”

What is the Leading of the Holy Spirit?

Bob Upton

Being “led by the Holy Spirit” is one of the most common phrases we use, yet it is also one of the most misunderstood subjects. This seminar provides a clear understanding of what the Bible teaches about how the indwelling Spirit guides believers. By going directly to Scripture, participants will learn practical lessons on recognizing His leading and faithfully following God’s direction in everyday life
